L’Oceano è stata una delle mie curiosità più affascinanti, chiedermi cosa si nasconde tra i livelli più profondi dell’acqua, mi affascina. Ho iniziato a fare immersioni subacquee quasi nello stesso momento in cui ho deciso di diventare un designer di tessuti, e negli ultimi due anni ho fatto un’esplorazione profonda nella barriera corallina del Mar dei Caraibi. Ogni volta che faccio un’immersione vedo qualcosa di diverso, qualcosa che si muove in modo diverso e che mi affascina molto dell’oceano; non finisce mai ed è illimitato. Pertanto, ho deciso di fare un’esplorazione più profonda con la fotografia, allenandosi a catturare ciò che è davvero nascosto o inosservato, alla ricerca di grandi creature così come di piccoli elementi. Ho avuto l’opportunità di catturare una vasta diversità e straordinari colori, trame e bellissime forme che possono essere viste sott’acqua.
Una cosa che potrei facilmente notare è che la maggior parte delle specie e delle piante che vivono all’interno della Barriera Corallina, sono molto simili alle “Colonie”. Viaggiano in gruppo, senza perdere alcun senso di movimento o direzione, creando un perfetto “Swing” per viaggiare da un luogo all’altro. È molto simile a “Poesia” perché in ogni sua parte c’è una distinzione tra colori, specie, piante o trame che possono facilmente differire tra loro, ma allo stesso tempo c’è un grande senso di “armonia” e “ritmo” che scorre nell’acqua come un’energia in cui unisce tutto insieme come un’intera sfera, creando in qualche modo “Scene”.

Appena ho letto il brief di Toile de Jouy, e fatto delle ricerche su di esso, ho subito notato la relazione tra i due mondi, le loro somiglianze come le “Scene” e la connessione tra le immagini mi hanno fatto capire che questo poteva essere un’occasione perfetta per fondere insieme i due mondi, senza perdersi l’un l’altro. Ho seguito il percorso e il tracciato preciso che offre Toile de Jouy, ho cercato di decifrare il codice modificando gli elementi che possono essere facilmente riconoscibili, e contaminando il suo DNA con creature sottomarine. Andando avanti, imparo che in ogni Toile de Jouy c’è una storia da raccontare che si concentra su un soggetto che può essere un’azione, una persona o un oggetto. Separo quindi gli elementi che avevo catturato nelle mie foto, e per ogni proposta c’è un soggetto su cui focalizzare e una storia che racconta il suo rapporto con il mare e il ruolo importante che svolge.

Non c’è giorno, non riesco a pensare a nessun’altra scena in cui colore, consistenza e movimento siano insieme in uno spazio aperto e possa essere apprezzata come poesia. L’oceano e i suoi preziosi personaggi sono molto simili a Tales of Poems, insieme possono cantare, ballare e muoversi magnificamente. La ricchezza e la biodiversità della Barriera Corallina mi hanno permesso di esprimere davvero la mia interpretazione del mondo sottomarino, non solo ricreando il loro mondo in immagini, ma allo stesso tempo mostrando la loro capacità di essere affascinante, emozionante e glamour.

The Ocean has been one of my most fascinating curiosities, wondering what is hidden in between the deepest levels of water, fascinates me. I started to do scuba diving almost at the same time I decided to become a Textile designer, and for the past two years I did a deep exploration in the coral barrier on the Caribbean sea. Everytime, I have done a dive I see something different, something that moves differently, and that really fascinates me about the ocean; it never ends and it’s limitless. Therefore, I decided to do a deeper exploration with photography, training myself to capture what is really hidden or unnoticed, looking for big creatures as well as small elements. I had the opportunity to capture a vast diversity and extraordinary colors, textures, and beautiful shapes that can be seen underwater.
One thing that I could easily notice is that most of the species and plants that live within the Coral Barrier, are very similar to “Colonies”. They travel by groups, without losing any sense of movement or direction, creating a perfect “Swing” to travel from one place to another. Is very much like “Poetry” because in every part of it, there is a distinction between colors, species, plants, or textures that can easily difference in between one another, but at the same time there is a great sense of “harmony” and “ rhythm” that flows in the water like an energy in which unites everything together as a whole sphere, in some ways creating “Scenes.”

As soon as I read the brief of Toile de Jouy, and did some research on it, and I immediately noticed the relation between the two worlds, their similarities like the “Scenes” and the connection between the images made me realize that this could be a perfect opportunity to merged the two worlds together, without loosing one another. I followed the path and precise layout that Toile de Jouy offers, I tried to break its code by changing the elements that can be easily recognizable, and contaminating its DNA with underwater creatures. As I move forward, I learn that in every Toile de Jouy there is a story to tell which focuses on one subject that can be an action, a person, or an object. Therefore, I separate the elements that I had captured in my pictures, and for each proposal there is a subject to be focused on and a story that tells its relationship with the sea and the important role it plays.

There is no day, I can’t think of any other scene in which color, texture, and movement are together in open space, and it can be appreciated as poetry. The ocean and it’s precious characters are very similar to a Tales of Poems, together they can sing, dance, and move beautifully. The richness and biodiversity of the Coral Barrier allowed me to really express my interpretation about the underwater world, not only recreating their world in images, but at the same time to show their capacity to be fascinating, exciting, and glamorous.
