La forma della Luce

“La forma della luce” vuole mettere a confronto l’essenza immaginifica della Haute Couture con l’arte percettiva di James Turrell, attraverso il mezzo della forma e della luce.
Le opere di Turrell hanno suscitato in me un forte interesse poiché non nascono con la sola finalità artistica, ma sono una vera e propria forma di esperimento scientifico.
Turrell permette, grazie alla sua arte, esplorazioni di luce e di spazio che parlano agli spettatori senza la necessità di utilizzare parole, impattando sulla vista, sul corpo e la mente per accrescerne la consapevolezza.
La ricerca dei volumi del progetto è nata dal desiderio di scorporare le opere dell’artista.
La natura formale della collezione ruota attorno a volumi dall’aspetto sferici e trapezoidali.
Dopo aver stampato su acetato le opere dell’artista, ho diviso i vari elementi che componevano le immagini e ne ho riassemblato le forme.
Successivamente ho lavorato a moulage su manichino sia per ricreare nella realtà gli studi fino ad ora bidimensionali, sia per continuare a ricercare volumi analoghi e nuovi rispetto a quelli presenti sullo sketchbook.
Nella produzione artistica di Turrell il colore riveste un ruolo di prim’ordine.
Oltre a riproporre le associazioni cromatiche dell’artista, ho sviluppato grazie ad un’esperienza presso la tessitura e stamperia Luigi Verga, tessuti stampati e jacquard che rielaborano tale concetto. Nel progettare i tessuti stampati sono partito dalle testimonianze dei visitatori dopo essere entrati nelle stanze dell’artista, concentrandomi sul secondo concetto della collezione, la luce.
Le stampe vogliono dunque rievocare quelle sensazioni quasi di evasione dal reale che caratterizzano le opere dell’artista, utilizzando gli elementi cari a Turrell, come il semicerchio o la sfera, ma in modo che il tutto risultasse fuori fuoco, impalpabile.
La ricerca invece del tessuto Jacquard era finalizzata a restituire la luminosità delle opere.
Dopo una lunga ricerca in archivio, lo Jacquard finale, grazie anche all’utilizzo del filato da pesca, risulta con una mano molto corposa e ricca, ed è caratterizzato da una forte riflessione luminosa.
I motivi che compongono il tessuto sono familiari all’universo di Turrell, ma rielaborati grazie a diverse armature e cambi cromatici.
“La forma della Luce” compares the imaginative essence of Haute Couture with the perceptive art of James Turrell, through shape and light.
Turrell’s works have aroused in me a strong interest because they are not born with the only artistic purpose, but they are a real form of scientific experiment.
Turrell allows, thanks to his art, explorations of light and space that speak to viewers without the need of words, impacting the view, body and mind to increase awareness.
The research of the project’s volumes came from the desire to break down the artist’s works.
The formal nature of the collection revolves around spherical and trapezoidal volumes.
After printing the artist’s works on acetate, I divided the various elements that made up the images and reassembled their shapes.
Then I worked in moulage on the mannequin both to recreate in reality the studies until now two-dimensional, both to continue to search for similar and new volumes based on the ones on the sketchbook.
In Turrell’s artistic production, colour plays a leading role.
In addition to re-propose the artist’s chromatic associations, thanks to an experience at the Luigi Verga weaving and printing company, I have developed printed and jacquard fabrics that rework this concept. In designing the printed fabrics I started from the testimonies of visitors after entering the artist’s rooms, focusing on the second concept of the collection, light.
The prints want to evoke those sensations almost of evasion from reality that characterize the artist’s works, using the elements typical of Turrell’s world, such as the semicircle or the sphere, but in a blurred, impalpable way.
The research of Jacquard fabric was aimed at returning to the brightness of the works.
After a long search in the archive, the final Jacquard, thanks to the use of the fishing yarn, results with a very thick and rich hand, characterized by a strong light reflection.
The motifs that made up the fabric are familiar to the Turrell’s universe , but reworked thanks to different armors and color changes.
