GAGA
“GAGA” – una parola senza significato, apparentemente senza valore, che nel XXI secolo è quasi esclusivamente associata a quel lato più eccentrico della cultura musicale pop; in realtà, queste 4 lettere nascondono un mondo che vive intrinseco in ogni individuo .
Il primo suono, la prima parola, il primo tentativo di esprimersi; due sillabe che rompono le barriere del tempo, permettendo un ritorno all’innocenza, a non avere regole e convenzioni, ad esplorare tutto da capo, come gli occhi di un bambino, innocenti, curiosi e affamati di scoperta.
La collezione “GAGA” trova le sue radici nell’omonimo linguaggio di movimento, ideato dal coreografo israeliano Ohad Naharin, il quale pone come archè di questa sua “filosofia” il movimento e la forma.
Un movimento “nuovo”, liberatorio, perpetuo, improvvisato, impulsivo, che viene tradotto dai danzatori Gaga attraverso il loro essere “body builders with soft spines”, perché mentre danzano non sono più modellati dalle terrene leggi chimiche e fisiche, ma sono “scolpiti” da quell’energia che fluisce dal nucleo di ogni individuo; la stessa energia che modella le opere di Chewy Stoll, il quale, attraverso il computer, conferisce al marmo il potere di dimenticare la sua natura solida e immobile, decostruendolo tramite il movimento, attribuendogli cosi la “forma” dei danzatori Gaga.
Lo stesso movimento, frutto dell’ascolto del ritmo del proprio corpo, viene esibito da Emiliano Maggi nelle sue opere “viventi”, che ne sottolineano il suo potere curativo, dinamico e mutevole.
La collezione è costruita sui passi di “Ehad Mi Yodea”, coreografia in grado di raccontare attraverso il potere del movimento la storia di ogni individuo che, imparando a spogliarsi di tutte le costrizioni e formalità che la società impone, ritrova il proprio autentico essere; infatti, i capi incarnano questa filosofia, facendo particolare attenzione al concetto di movimento, che si riflette attraverso tagli, volumi, pannelli e stampe; quest’ultime frutto della rielaborazione dello studio del movimento tra scienza e arte.
Importante nella collezione è il concetto di “non convenzionale” approfondito attraverso la ricerca dello studio che Diller Scofidio+Renfro hanno svolto con il progetto “Bad Press: Dissident Ironing”; questo progetto infatti separa il compito di stirare dall’estetica dell’efficienza esplorando modelli alternativi per piegare, abbottonare e stirare una camicia da uomo, scambiando l’immagine del funzionale con il disfunzionale.
“GAGA” è un inno alla libertà, a quella forma-pensiero che è nascosta nel nostro nucleo, all’anima non convenzionale; infatti proprio come Gaga dance è alla ricerca perenne di un “nuovo” movimento, attraverso la decostruzione di quello convenzionale, questa collezione assorbe la stessa filosofia, decostruendo “l’uniforme sociale dell’uomo” tramite il potere del movimento; quella stessa “uniforme” indossata dai ballerini di “Echad mi yodea”, che si scompone e ricompone indagando forme ignote, abbattendo quella gabbia che soffoca l’uomo attraverso rigide regole sartoriali.
“GAGA” – a meaningless, seemingly worthless word that in the 21st century is almost exclusively associated with the most eccentric side of pop music culture; in reality, these four letters hide a world that lives intrinsically in every individual. The first sound, the first word, the first attempt to express oneself; two syllables that break the barriers of time, allowing a return to innocence, with no rules nor conventions, free to explore everything all over again, like the eyes of a child – innocent, curious and hungry for discovery.
The “GAGA” collection finds its roots in the movement language of the same name, conceived by the Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, who places movement and form as the arche of his “philosophy”.
A “new”, liberating, perpetual, improvised, impulsive movement, which is translated by the Gaga dancers through their being “body builders with soft spines”, because while they dance they are no longer shaped by earthly chemical and physical laws, but are “sculpted” by that energy that flows from the nucleus of each individual; the very energy that shapes the works of Chewy Stoll, who, with the computer, gives marble the power to forget its solid and motionless nature, deconstructing it through movement, thus giving it the “shape” of the Gaga dancers.
The same movement, the result of listening to the rhythm of one’s body, is shown by Emiliano Maggi in his “living” works, which underline its healing, dynamic and changeable power.
The collection is built on the steps of “Ehad Mi Yodea”, a choreography capable of telling the story, through the power of movement, of each individual who, learning to strip themselves of all the constraints and formalities that society imposes, rediscovers their authentic essence; indeed, the garments embody this philosophy, paying particular attention to the concept of movement which is reflected through cuts, volumes, panels and prints; the latter the result of the reworking of the study of the movement between science and art.
What’s central in the collection is the concept of “unconventional”, deepened by the research of the study carried out by Diller Scofidio+Renfro with the project “Bad Press: Dissident Ironing”; this project actually separates the task of ironing from the aesthetics of efficiency by exploring alternative models for folding, buttoning and ironing a men’s shirt, exchanging the image of the functional with the dysfunctional.
“GAGA” is a hymn to freedom, to that thought/form hidden in our core, to an unconventional soul; in fact, just as Gaga dance is in constant search of a “new” movement through the deconstruction of the conventional one, this collection absorbs the same philosophy, deconstructing “the social uniform of man” through the power of movement; that same “uniform” worn by the dancers of “Echad mi yodea”, which breaks down and reassembles by investigating unknown forms, breaking down that cage which suffocates man through rigid sartorial rules.
